Portrait de Méloée, aquarelliste, dans son atelier

A watercolorist born from a bullet journal

Originally from the Vosges, I work in the healthcare field.

That's exactly where it all began.

During my studies, I discovered bullet journaling with friends. Almost immediately, those pages felt incomplete without color. I needed to bring them to life, but colored pencils weren't for me. So I bought a small watercolor palette, almost out of curiosity. It was 2018, and without realizing it, I had just met my lifelong passion.

The gift that changed everything

For a year and a half, I painted every day in my bullet journal, with just one small brush on unsuitable paper. My partner decided to step in. After seeking advice from the team at Aquarelle et Pinceaux, he gifted me my first real brushes and my very first cotton paper block.

It was a revelation. I rediscovered watercolor in a completely new light, and I never looked back.

Learning, progressing, flourishing

In 2022, I felt I was stagnating and couldn't progress on my own. I decided to invest in a course on watercolor fundamentals with Marie Boudon: starting from scratch to build something solid. I was lucky to have an office entirely dedicated to my practice, and I painted daily for nearly a year.

Since no one around me shared this passion, I started my Instagram account @metsleauencouleur in 2023 to connect with other watercolorists. I took part in challenges and events, and gradually found what I loved: painting cohesive series, with defined palettes and precise themes.

A universe between nature, animals, and Japan

Passionate about animals since childhood and raised on Studio Ghibli films, I naturally made nature and Japan my subjects of choice. I discovered a deep love for working with details and textures: plumage, moss, wood, scales…

My goal is simple: to bring poetry and serenity by bringing nature, animals, and Japanese aesthetics into people's everyday lives. And to make accessible what isn't always: the depths of the ocean, the beauty of a bird in flight…

Beautiful tools to create beautiful things

I work primarily on 100% cotton paper and use mostly handcrafted watercolors made by French artisans.

Hand-ground pigments, hand-bound sketchbooks, handcrafted ceramic palettes: supporting artisan work is part of my approach. I deeply believe we create better when we hold tools made with care.

Professional watercolorist and proud of it

Since May 2026, I am officially a professional watercolorist. A new adventure begins: letting my works travel to find new homes and become a small part of their owners' daily lives.

An online shop and introductory workshops will be launching soon. If you'd like to be among the first to know, feel free to follow me on Instagram or write to me directly 🌿
